From Memorial Day to the Sunday before Labor Day, the town square becomes packed with visitors at 6:30pm to watch cowboys chase and capture robbers during the theatrically-produced Town Square Shootout. It is a crowd pleasure for both you and young at heart.
Other events for the whole family include the Jackson Hole Rodeo, the Teton County Fair in late July, the Grand Teton Music Festival, numerous art fairs in the Park, horseback trail rides and guided mountain bike tours. And, if they want to enjoy swimming and hot tubs, the Teton County Recreation Center offers 1-day passes for visitors at very reasonable rates.
If your family is interested in learning about the region's geology and animal life, a number of local non-profit entities offer seasonal camps and naturalist-led treks in the nearby forests and parks for people of all ages. Some are packaged with lodging, others are offered a la carte on a class-by-class basis. Probably the most well-known indoor facility and educational center of its kind in the world is the National Museum of Wildlife Art, located directly opposite of the National Elk Refuge roughly 3 miles north of Jackson on US Hwy. 89. This is the pre-eminent collection of some of America's most valuable art pieces showcases the wildlife of North America in a fashion that is interesting, and educational, to both kids and adults. If you've visited museums such as the Glenbow in Calgary, the Buffalo Bill in Cody and the Philbrook in Tulsa, this is of equal calibre and class.
