Wind River
The Wind River is located in Wyoming, amidst the amazing scenery of the Absaroka Mountain Range, making it a hotspot for fishing. In fact, many fishermen find fly fishing very productive in the cool waters, as well as entering into the river's East Fork.
Wyoming's Wind River and its East Fork are highly popular with fishermen. It traverses its way through the Absaroka Mountains, offering the perfect cool waters for plenty of fish and lots of opportunities for both beginner and expert anglers.
The Wind River is quite lengthy and its cold waters are the perfect haven for brookies, whitefish, cutthroats, rainbow trout and brown trout. In fact, there are numerous points of access available, some of which have full camping facilities with varied levels of amenities.
There are a total of seven places from which to access the Wind River banks, all of which are prime hotspots for fishing. These include a roadside access just thirteen miles north of Dubois on the US 26-287 (four places are easy to get to), right in DuNoir, at the Dubois Hatchery, via the access road through the Spence/Moriarty Wildlife Management Area, tailwater access in Boysen State Park and via varied access points in the Wind River Indian Reservation. However, special permits for fishing and entry into the reservation have to be obtained in advance through government offices in Riverton or Lander.
