Brooks Lake
Brooks Lake is located in Dubois, Wyoming, which is part of the Wind River Ranger District. Though the area has a big fishing lodge and is open for fishing throughout the year, the winter receives substantial amounts of snow and getting in for ice fishing can be challenging.
Despite the heavy snowfall seen in the winter, fishing at the Dubois lake of Brooks, Wyoming, is open season all year round. A nearby lodge provides a good base for most fishermen and plenty of access to fishing equipment and boats.
Brooks Lake is full of cutthroat, splake and three types of trout. Situated near the Wind River Mountains, the lake is part of the beauty of the Continental Divide. However, regulations for fishing in the lake are strict. There are also safety considerations that are recommended because the area is grizzly bear country. In fact, the weather is highly changeable, raining one minute and dry the next, so summer fishing trips should include rain gear for hikes up to the other parts of the lake.
For those using boats for their fishing, Brooks Lake provides a boat ramp. However, motorized boat use is limited to protect the local environment and fish stocks.
Access to the lake is provided by the nearby Highway 26-287 and the 515 forest road. However, the part of the road is simple dirt and not suitable for regular road vehicles.
