MOUNTAIN
HOSTS
Jackson Hole Mountain Hosts lead complimentary orientation tours for
intermediate-level skiers daily at 9:30 a.m., departing from the
Mountain Host Building, and also rove the resort looking for chances
to be helpful. Additional tours are also offered for advance/expert
clientele from the top of Rendezvous Bowl on the hour, from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m.
Hospitality parties for groups of 25 or more can be arranged through
the resort’s catering department, 739-2732. The area’s lost and
found stockpile is located in the Guest Service Center under the
clock tower (739-2753 for 24-hr. voice mail).
SADDLEHORN ACTIVITIES CENTER
Nordic, Telemark, and snowshoe adventures. Skate skiers enjoy the 17
km of groomed track at the base of Teton Village, now dog friendly.
Ski with your pooch on designated trails. Lessons and clinics in
classic or skate-skiing. Backcountry tours and snowshoe treks into
Grand Teton National Park, Teton Pass, and at the resort,
307-739-2629.
If you’re lucky enough to be in Jackson on March 16, catch Coney
Classic Fun, a 5k race on a groomed track at the center that
coincides with the “dog loop.” Competitors ski or snowshoe towed by
1-3 dogs. An awards party follows and all proceeds go to P.A.W.S.
and the Teton County Animal Shelter.
HIRE A GUIDE
Hiring a guide can be both a good idea and an essential element in a
great vacation. The resort’s new open-boundary policy has led to
huge increases in bookings for the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s
Alpine and Backcountry Guide service. Steep chutes, wide-open bowls,
spacious glades, canyons, peak skiing, and seldom-visited slopes
await groups of 1-5. Pre-booking a ski guide is highly recommended.
Call the Jackson Hole Ski School at 739-2663.
SLEEP IN A YURT
The new Rock Springs Yurt will accommodate 1-8 people. Snowshoe or
ski in for the day, or ski down from the last tram to stay
overnight. A guide is required, and dinner and breakfast are
included in the overnight trips. Booked through the Saddlehorn
Activities Center, 739-2663.
VERTICAL FOOT CLUB
Ski either 100,000 or 150,000 vertical feet during one week and
receive certificates from Jackson Hole’s Vertical Foot Club. Pick up
the rules and a Ski the Big One scorecard at the ticket window or
the Guest Service Center and keep track of your runs. After 300,000
feet you qualify for awards.
TRAM JAM
Got them “Standing in Line Waitin' for the Next Gondola blues?”
Ease the pain of waiting by catching live music from the mountain’s
music muse, Peter Chandler, AKA The Chan Man. Chandler serves up his
unique blend of blues, reggae, and funk with his band Tram Jam on
Saturdays, from 11-12 in front of the Gondola.
