The Festival is excited to welcome back two favorite young guest artists – the great American conductor James Gaffigan and percussionist Colin Currie. In the 2008 Festival season, Maestro Gaffigan led a commanding performance of works by Strauss, Vaughn Williams and Mendelssohn, and now returns to conduct Dvořák's ethereal symphonic poem Noonday Witch, Prokofiev's electrifying 5th Symphony and a contemporary work by James MacMillan featuring Colin Currie. Veni, veni, Emmanuel received its world premiere on August 10, 1992 at the Royal Albert Hall in London and draws its inspiration from the Advent plainchant of the same name. Currie, who last mesmerized Walk Festival Hall listeners with Jennifer Higdon's Grammy Award-winning Percussion Concerto in 2010, was the soloist for the 300th performance of Veni, veni Emmanuel in 2003 at Birmingham's Symphony Hall. He brings his intimate knowledge of the piece to Walk Festival Hall to collaborate with James Gaffigan, one of America's most outstanding young conductors.
