EcoTourism //
Promoting local business is a key effort in promoting Eco Tourism of any area. Jackson Hole businesses have one major goal in mind and that is preserving the natural beauty we all know and love. That common ground has brought many Jackson based businesses together to keeping Jackson Hole the jewel of the west.
It takes a village to move mountains, and in this mountain town the village is taking strides together to preserve our natural heritage and leave as minimal an impact as possible. Several companies and organizations stand out in the community as leaders of an Ecotourism movement. 1% for the Tetons for example, is an organization formed from the parent foundation 1% for the Planet They work with local businesses to support and provide funding for environmentally conscious agencies to continue the preservation progress.
Many companies can be on either side of the fence when it comes to deciding if they are an ecotourism based business versus having focus on sustainable tourism. But when it comes down to it, both make the world of difference no matter what choice is made.
Sustainable Tourism, in its entirety, is focused on sustaining and supporting the natural environment and culture through development and education to generate income and employment for the local community.
Ecotourism is a form of sustainable travel focusing more on specific areas where natural beauty and cultural heritage tend to be the main attraction. Businesses with programs focused on minimization of their impact on the natural environment can consider themselves part of the ecotourism industry.
