Food - Bubba's Restaurant

Bubba's a locals Favorite

Ask a local for a restaurant recommendation and you're liable to get the third degree. What kind of food do you like? How much do you want to spend? Are you looking for a romantic dinner for two or do you have a crowd to feed?

You see, there are upwards of 80 eateries in and around Jackson Hole. The fare ranges from franchise fast food to haute cuisine, so it's hard to give a straight answer to the question, "Where's a good place to eat?"

But ask a local where they've eaten most recently and there's a darn good chance you'll get a one-word reply: Bubba's.

There is a simple reason. Good food and reasonable prices. OK, so that's two reasons. And great service, too. All right, three reasons. Oh, and, uh, .... Well, I think you get the idea.

Actually, the restaurant's full name is Bubba's Bar-B-Que, so it's no mystery what's on the menu. What you need to know is that Bubba's serves great barbecue. Not just OK, not just good, but great.

Of course, the usual smoked beef and pork are available, but there's also smoked turkey and (my favorite) smoked pork chops.

Excellent chicken, spare ribs and baby back ribs are also featured. These are all barbecued fresh daily which is one reason they taste so good, but it also means they sometimes run out.

All this comes with an exceptional range of side dish choices, garlic bread, cole slaw, potato salad, French fries, corn-on-the-cob, barbecue beans, and boiled new potatoes.

I hope I haven't yet lost those readers who don't eat meat, because Bubba's also has a wonderful salad bar.

We're not talking about a bowl of wilting Iceberg and a couple of dishes of carrot sticks and garbanzo beans. No, Bubba's salad bar features cool crisp lettuces and more than a dozen raw, pickled and cooked veggie add-ons. Always on the salad bar are a couple of big blocks of cheese, a fruit salad or two and bread pudding. Ah, heaven!

All this takes place daily, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can also get breakfast between 7-11 a.m.

Bubba's is even easy to find, located at 515 W. Broadway, the so-called "five way light." (Just ask a local for directions.)....
