Fremont County Idaho
Fremont County, Idaho is a mostly forested area filled with exciting wilderness just made for relaxation and recreation. The spectacular beauty of this section of the state, a popular vacation destination, amazes all who travel through. Close to some famous national parks, Fremont County offers much to the traveler.
Established in 1893, Fremont County, Idaho was named for John C. Fremont who was an explorer working for the Government, surveying the paths of the West. Egin Bench was the first settlement, but others soon came and made Fremont County what it is today.
Some of Yellowstone National Park and the Caribou-Targhee National Forest lie within Fremont County borders. This allows for some great outdoor recreation throughout the area. From the county seat of St. Anthony you can travel north, to Island Park. This town has been a magnet for those who love adventure – with acres of forestlands and high meadows. Fly-fishing is wondrous in Henry's Fork of the Snake River, and in the winter you'll find ideal locations for Nordic skiing.
Natural beauty isn't the only attraction of Fremont County. Wildlife is abundant, and you can spot black bear, grizzly, and elk, not to mention watching soaring eagles and glimpsing beautiful trumpeter swans.
