Demographics

Located in northwestern Wyoming, Jackson Hole is a beautiful alpine valley bordered by the Teton Mountain Range on the west and the Gros Ventre Mountain Range on the east. The valley is approximately 60 miles long and 20 miles wide. Elevation at the valley floor is 6,209 feet.

Grand Teton National Park and the southern end of Yellowstone National Park also reside in Jackson Hole. On the other side of the Tetons and just over the Idaho/Wyoming border, Teton Valley, Idaho, also offers many of the same amenities as Teton County, Wyoming (or Jackson Hole proper).

General Jackson Hole Info

Jackson Hole starts with the town of Jackson, near the south end of the 60-mile-long valley.

Jackson is the seat of Teton County, its only incorporated town. While most of the county's population now lives in the Jackson Hole area, there is an outpost on the western slopes in the small community of Alta and its neighbor, the Grand Targhee Ski Resort. Less than 3 percent of Teton County is in private hands; most is contained within Grand Teton National Park, the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Targhee National Forest and the National Elk Refuge. Teton County is composed of 3,826,407 acres, of which 97 percent is under state or federal management. Other towns in Teton County are Alta (via Driggs, Idaho), Kelly, Moose, Moran, Teton Village and Wilson.

Jackson has the highest cost of living in the state and the lowest unemployment rate.
